These terms describe what PermitKeys is for and what you agree to by using it. They are written in plain language on purpose.
What this site is
PermitKeys is a free study tool for the written knowledge test of a U.S. learner's permit or driver's license. Its questions and explanations are written by us from the official driver handbook of each state. There is no account to create and nothing to pay.
The test itself is administered by the licensing agency of each state. Which questions you are asked, how many, and what counts as a passing score are decided by that agency, and the rules of the road change when a state changes its laws. If anything on this site differs from your state's agency, the agency's version applies.
Who owns what
The driver handbooks belong to the states that publish them. We use them as the source of every question, we point to the section each question comes from, and we do not reproduce their text.
The questions, the explanations, the wording of every other page, the design and the code of this site are our own work and are protected by copyright. You may use them for your own study: read them, print them, share links to them. You may not copy the questions or the explanations to republish them elsewhere, in whole or in part, or collect them automatically. For any other use, ask us first.
Acceptable use
Use the site as a person studying would. Do not try to interfere with it, overload it, access it with automated tools at volume, or present it as something it is not.
Advertising and third parties
The site is supported by advertising served by Google. We do not choose individual ads and do not endorse the advertisers. We also link to other websites, mainly the state licensing agencies, and we are not responsible for their content or their availability. The privacy policy explains what advertising means for your data.
No warranties, limited liability
The site is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be available without interruption, that it is free of errors, or that practicing here will lead to any particular result on your test. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from relying on its content. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes
We may update these terms. Changes are posted on this page with the date below, and using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
